Hello. My name is Jeff Wall and I'm the Bigdumbhick, a 6'7", 350lb+, 60yr old, bib-overall wearing, 60year old, solo Acoustic Hillbilly, Singer /Songwriter /Storyteller from the Piedmont Triad region of NC and I would like to introduce to you my newest record – BIGDUMBHICK- A Little Bit Weird.
This is my 4th CD release of all original music. It is a mostly acoustic record, a more mature, grown up project than any of my previous releases. I dug a little deeper and I took a few more chances.
There are still some of the humorous songs which people have come to expect from me - "Every Bone in Her Body", and "There Ain't Nobody In Here Listening to Me" (aka The Brewery Song). There are some deeper, philosophical songs which utilize metaphor and allegory - "Unicycle", "I Don't Know Where I'm Going" and then there are the intensely emotional songs, the ones that bring up a lot of deep feelings that are not always comfortable for me or for the listener - "I Ain't Afraid of Dying" a song about the death of a long time partner; "Help me Mama, I Can't Breathe" is an angry protest song about the murder of George Floyd. "First Cup of Coffee" which addresses my feelings about aging and the absence felt by my late father’s passing; and then there is “Choices", a song about an unplanned pregnancy told from the frightened, irresponsible baby daddy’s point of view.
There really isn’t a lot of production on this album. We tried to make things as “Live” as possible. A few of the tracks feature a drum /acoustic bass rhythm section, while a couple are just me and my acoustic guitar. There is a tiny bit of banjo, accordion, and fiddle. There is some pedal steel and Dobro, and just enough electric guitar to add texture and emphasis, but not enough to develop a bad cocaine habit.
A number of people who don't owe me money have listened to this record and they have told me that to their surprise, it is a good record, and that they actually enjoyed it. Many have even gone so far as to listen to it more than once. It has even been suggested that if no one else releases a record in 2022, this one might have a chance of making some year end top ten lists.
