Known as the "Bigdumbhick" (that’s one word) Jeff Wall is a larger than life (literally) giant of a solo acoustic performer who blends back porch music with a unique sense of humor and mesmerizing storytelling.

Jeff is a fearless entertainer who can switch from hilarious toe-tapping grooves to deep, emotional moments in the blink of an eye, all while keeping audiences totally rapt and engaged. Whether it’s a “Squeaky-Clean, Whole-milk, Leave it to Beaver, Baptist-friendly, Grandma Approved” set or a more “Adult-Oriented, Damn The Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead, We Don’t Need Any Damn Guard Rails or Seat Belts, and did I Just Hear a Siren?” type of show, Jeff is easy to work with and is ready to make your next event unforgettable.

For booking inquiries: Jeff is easy to work with, is mostly house-broken, and has all the necessary equipment needed to perform at your venue or event. Primarily a solo performer, he can quickly assemble a duo, trio, or even a four-o (quartet) should that be what you need. With plenty of references and a commitment to making every gig unforgettable, the Bigdumbhick is ready to bring the groove and the laughter to your next event and would love the opportunity to come and entertain you and your guests, put a smile on everyone's face, and hopefully be able to continue to chase his lifelong dream of not starving to death.

BIO 1 - 115 words

A solo acoustic performer with a background in Bluegrass and Roots music, Singer-Songwriter-Storyteller Jeff Wall, aka the Bigdumbhick, lays down a groove so strong that it could break your Grandma’s hip. At 6’7”, and a bit more than 300lbs (a lot more), he is an exceptionally large, and darkly hilarious entertainer, a giant bear of a man who loves naps, dogs, and stealing the occasional unattended picnic basket. Settling in the Winston-Salem, NC area following a 20-year Navy career, he can often be found wandering aimlessly throughout the Southeastern United States in a pair of stained bib-overalls with a beat-up Martin guitar spreading joy and laughter and leaving a trail of crumbs everywhere he goes.

“We had a great evening, with musician, songwriter, storyteller, and comedian Jeff Wall, also known as the Bigdumbhick, joining us in the studio. It had been a long time since we have laughed that hard. Bigdumbhick is big and talented, his songs are funny, sad, smart and catchy.

Good Stuff”

Bio 2 - 398 Words

Jeff Wall, known to many as The Bigdumbhick, is an acoustic singer-songwriter-storyteller living in North Carolina. At 6’7” and somewhere around 300+ lbs., he’s certainly big. Usually seen in bib overalls, if he’s wearing anything at all, you might be excused for thinking he’s something of a hick, but don’t make the mistake of thinking that he’s dumb. That’s just a disguise. There’s a whole lot more going on here than first appearances might indicate.

A native of Middle Tennessee, Wall joined the Navy at age 18, to see the world and, as he says, find someone to date that he wasn’t kin to. He spent the next 20 years in uniform, traveling the globe, breaking bread, conversating, and playing music with people from just about every imaginable point on the political, religious, and social spectrum. He’s not nearly the hick he might portray himself to be.

After attending his first bluegrass festival, and taking in numerous campfire jam sessions, Wall quickly realized that it was much more fun to play music than it was to watch it. Upon retiring from the Navy, he settled in North Carolina, playing cover tunes in local bars. In 2015, he accidentally entered a monthly original music competition and wrote his first song. He made it to the final two of that competition, so the next month he wrote another song – and once again, he made it to number two. Finding himself in number two is an apt description of Wall’s musical career, but it wasn’t long before he had enough original material to record his first CD, 2016’s Love Everybody, and the world had yet another folksinger.

Drawing influences from bluegrass, country, blues, folk, and even reggae, his original material ranges from comedic complaints about the injustices of aging - “Erectile Dysfunction Blues,” “Battery Operated Boyfriend,” and “Will I Ever Get Laid Again”, to raw and deeply moving like “Help Me Mama, I Can’t Breathe,” “Choices,” and “New Wayfaring Strangers.” Wall is a uniquely gifted natural performer, delivering his songs with an authenticity that is all too rare these days. His lyrics will almost always make you chuckle, think, or even feel, while his voice will only occasionally make you wince. His sardonic, self-deprecating sense of humor serves as a perfect candy coating to help make that bitter pill of human existence just a little easier for us all to swallow.

From the main stage during a Drive-By Truckers show:

”Earlier I went upstairs and I saw Jeff Wall, he calls himself Bigdumbhick and you know... he’s really big, and he’s undeniably kind of a hick, but there ain’t nothing dumb about that motherf**ker, he’s smarter than I could ever dream of being, and he writes really great songs and he has gotten So. F**king. Good.

I was up there, and I was laughing my ass off, and several times I had tears in my eyes, and I was so blown away and I’m so proud of him.”

BIO 3 - 462 Words

Jeff Wall aka the Bigdumbhick, is a solo acoustic singer-songwriter-storyteller from the Winston-Salem area of North Carolina. At 6’7” and more than 300lbs (much more) , it is easy to understand the “Big” part. The “Dumb” part is easy too. Look at him, he just looks dumb. Big and Dumb, just the  way your Mama always liked them, like Lennie Small with a little tiny guitar in his hands …but he knows who Lennie Small is and you’re probably going to have to go look that up*, so maybe he’s not as dumb as he looks.

Nobody could be as dumb as he looks,

Originally from Middle Tennessee, he joined the Navy at age 18 in order to see the world and find someone to date that he wasn’t kin to. He spent the next 20 years traveling the world breaking bread, conversating, and playing music with people from just about every imaginable point of the political, religious, and social spectrum.  He is not nearly as big of a “hick” as he might try to lead you to believe.

In his mid-50’s, looking at the current health of the music industry, he noticed that Mature Adult, “you-kids-get-the hell-off-of-my-lawn”, “everything that used to be stiff is now limber and everything that was once limber is now stiff”, “somewhere between AARP and Assisted Living” demographic was largely being ignored. These were people with disposable income, at least in the first half of the month, and his potential for success was only limited by the quality of the audience’s hearing aids. .

Somehow, for reasons neither his wife, nor any other reasonably sane person can possibly fathom, it has all seemed to work out. He is an incredibly unique, gifted, and darkly hilarious performer with a right hand that lays down a groove so strong that somebody could end up with a broken hip. His show is unpredictable. He’s often as surprised as the audience is by the things that come out of his mouth. His sardonic, self-deprecating use of humor serves as the perfect candy coating to make that dark and bitter pill of human existence just a bit easier for us all to swallow. One moment he will have an audience crying with laughter, and then he will unexpectedly sucker-punch them with something extremely raw and personal, and cause eyes to once again well up with tears - this time for a completely different reason.

He is authentic (whatever the hell that means.) This is not an act or some stage persona.  What you see is what you get. There's no pretense, no posturing, no bullshit. Well, maybe a little bullshit, but still, he’s real. He is what he is and he ain’t ashamed of it.
